Phenomenon:

If you try to upgrade the PowerBuilder Toolkit, from the PowerBuilder installer, you get the following error message: "Failed to back up the ADTConfig.XML file. Setup has been terminated!"

 

Scenario:

Upgrade the PowerBuilder Toolkit using the PowerBuilder installer. If you open the installer:

 

And choose to upgrade the Toolkit:

 

Then you get the following error message:

 

Solution:

  1. Uninstall PowerBuilder and all of it's components.
  2. Reboot the computer.
  3. Temporarly disable any Antivirus tools (see here).
  4. Run the PowerBuilder installer as an Admin.
  5. Install PowerBuilder and all of it's components.
